Components
The components comprising a completed installation for QUALCOMM's Globalstar
Fixed Satellite Phone are:
- Radio Antenna Unit (RAU)
- Junction Box (minimizes damage from lightning strikes)
- Power Supply
- Two-wire Telephone Set
- Telco/Power Cable
The roof mounted RAU provides over the air communications in typical environmental
climates and can be used in extreme
environments as well. The telephone set provides user access to a wide range
of Globalstar satellite services.
Available Customer Product Configurations
Enhanced Model (GSP-2900)
As an enhanced turnkey solution, the configuration includes an RAU, 15m of connecting
cable, junction box, stylish two-wire line telephone set and a 12VDC output/
universal AC input power supply complete with backup battery.

Features
In addition to offering clear voice quality of CDMA technology, the QUALCOMM
Globalstar Fixed Satellite Phone features a two-wire RJ-II connector, allowing
the subscriber to place calls using inexpensive, commercially available telephone
sets. The two-wire RJ-II connector permits the use of cordless telephone models
as well as those equipped with a speakerphone or built-in answering machine.
Installation
The RAU, junction box, and cabling are designed for outdoor use and if properly
installed, will not be harmed by weather extremes.
Your service provider will arrange for or perform the installation and maintenance
of the equipment required to place or receive calls over the Globalstar System.
All products include mounting hardware.
Radio Antenna Unit
- Acts as a radio receiver and transmitter connecting telephone set with Globalstar
low-Earth orbit satellites
- RAU antenna must have clear view of sky and horizon
- Globalstar/RAU operating frequencies:
TX: 1610.73 to 1625.49 MHz (reverse link)
RX: 2484.39 to 2499.15 MHz (folward link)
- Optional solar panel supply is available from Sunwize (tel.:+(l) 831-479-0974).
QUALCOMM has approved Sunwize's solar panel equipment for use with the QUALCOMM
Globalstar Fixed Satellite Phone.
Junction Box
Provides the user equipment with protection against nearby lightning strikes
when properly grounded.
Power Supply
- QUALCOMM supplied
- Cost effective
- +12 VDC output, universal AC input.
- Back-up battery featuring approximately 3.5 hours talk time and 24-48 hours
standby time

The design of QUALCOMM's Globalstar Fixed Satellite Phone complies with the
updated (1992) ANSI standard for safe
levels of human exposure to RF energy.
Making A Call
Making a call with your QUALCOMM Globalstar Fixed Satellite Phone is accomplished
as easily as using a wireline
connection. Like most telephone sets:
- Pick up the telephone handset and listen for dial tone. When you hear dial
tone, dial the telephone number.
- After a short pause, the number will be sent over the Globalstar satellite
system.
- To end a call, place the telephone hand set in its cradle.
